The Grivot Estate

If a terroir is an orchestra, the winemaker is the conductor. Each winemaker develops their own feelings and emotion which in a way creates their own symphony. They can’t help but pour a little of themselves into the wine.

A family story

The Grivot family and a love for terroir dating back to the 17th century. Succeeding Marielle and Etienne, Mathilde and her brother Hubert took the reins at the family winery in 2022.

Our philosophy

We aim to create harmony in our wines. Out of full respect for nature, our estate has been using organic processes since 1993. We only produce wines from our vineyard.

Our vintages

Every year is different. The secret is to adapt our winemaking processes to the climatic conditions of the vintage.

Map of the estate

Bourgogne

Chardonnay

This is a Cuvée Originale, because if Pinot Noir had been planted in this terroir, it would produce a Vosne-Romanée Cuvée. As there is no appellation for a white Vosne-Romanée, it can only be called Burgundy Chardonnay. It is now a mature vineyard which produces a smooth wine with the clean minerality typical of a rare white Côte de Nuits.

Bourgogne

Pinot Noir

Our wine comes from the excellent Lutenière terroir, which is very close to Vosne-Romanée, as it lies to the east of the main road. This very old vineyard produces exceptional wine year after year. This Burgundy will improve in finesse after a few years.

Vosne-Romanée

We produce a distinctive Vin Village from several parcels in the commune of Vosne-Romanée. After 4 to 6 years in bottle, the wine is fragrant, supple and well-structured, conducive to good ageing potential.

Vosne-Romanée

Bossières

A very old vineyard located in the vicinity of Vosne-Romanée’s best terroirs. Although a village appellation, the wines merit exclusive bottling with a label mentioning this special location.

Vosne-Romanée

1er cru

"Les Chaumes"

A parcel of old vines with moderately deep, stony soil, producing wines which are both full-bodied and elegant. It develops slowly after 5-7 years of ageing on average, producing violet on the nose and silk on the palate.

Vosne-Romanée

1er cru

"Les Rouges"

A terroir ideally situated above Les Echezeaux that produces a lively, elegant wine. It is a little-known, yet very high quality terroir, with a chalky, mineral edge.

Vosne-Romanée

1er cru

"Aux Brûlées"

A south-facing terraced vineyard producing complex and opulent wines. When left to mature in the bottle, it develops a nose and velvety texture unique to the fine wines of Vosne-Romanée.

Vosne-Romanée

1er cru

"Les Beaux Monts"

Premier cru parmi les plus célèbre de la commune, c’est un vin ample et précis. Il a un parfum suave de fruits rouge et d’épices exotiques. Son charme précoce permet au dégustateur de l’apprécier avec seulement quelques années de vieillissement, cependant son équilibre naturel lui permet une longue garde.

Vosne-Romanée

1er cru

"Aux Reignots"

A prime location just above Romanée. Poor, stony soil with perfect drainage and optimal sunshine. Although rarely spectacular, it is a sophisticated fine wine, always racy with a long finish.

Vosne-Romanée

1er cru

"Les Suchots"

One of the most famous Premier Crus in the village.
The terroir is geographically close to the Grand Crus of Romanée-Saint-Vivant and Les Echezeaux. Still one of the best wines in the cellar, it is fragrant and spicy, smooth without being flabby and structured without being aggressive. Not to mention a beautifully long finish. It is a physical wine, which could easily be aged for 20 years and is at its best after resting in a cold, dark cellar for a decade.

Nuits-Saint-Georges

"Aux Lavières"

Located just outside Vosne-Romanée, it is close to it both in terms of location and flavour. An elegant wine with very fine tannins.

Nuits-Saint-Georges

"Les Charmois"

It is a fine wine with the Village appellation. The wines it produces have good ageing potential with remarkable finesse.

Nuits-Saint-Georges

1er cru

"Les Pruliers"

A great terroir with East/Southeast exposure, very rocky, with limestone and clay soils. These characteristics add extra richness to the wine and rounder tannins. A long-aging wine, it often requires around ten years to mature and can be easily stored for 20 years.

Nuits-Saint-Georges

1er cru

"Roncières"

Nestled between Les Porrêts and Les Pruliers, this is an exceptional terroir boasting abundant sunshine and perfect drainage. The wines reflect the terroir: typical Nuits-Saint-Georges, tremendous freshness, finesse and mineral purity.

Nuits-Saint-Georges

1er cru

"Aux Boudots"

This is one of the estate’s great classics.
A fine terroir located just outside Vosne-Romanée, next to Malconsorts. It combines the power of wines from Nuits-Saint-Georges with the premier elegance of wines from Vosne-Romanée. Rich and robust with an extra touch of finesse and pedigree, it's a great wine for ageing.

Chambolle-Musigny

"La Combe d’Orveau"

A superb terroir surrounded by Premier and Grand Crus such as "Musigny" and "Clos Vougeot." The soil is poor, shallow, and very rocky. This wine is known for its remarkable finesse and sophistication.

Clos Vougeot

Grand Cru

This is a powerful, full-bodied wine. An upstanding young man, which, with the right education will transform into a gentleman. In youth, its invigorating energy pairs wonderfully with a nice steak. At its best, it is a generous and velvety wine with aromas of violet, truffle and humus.

Echezeaux

Grand Cru

A highly elegant, luxurious Grand Cru. It is often reminiscent of violet and spices. Fragrant and silky when young, opulent and sensual when mature. It is a voluptuous, distinctive wine with remarkable energy. It needs to be aged for a decade to fully reveal its best.

Richebourg

Grand Cru

This delightful Cru has an unrivalled rich, velvety bouquet. It is one of the most luxurious wines in Burgundy. Robust and sensual in perfect balance, with an expression reminiscent of an oriental market with spices, meats and silk. But you’ll have to be patient; this majestic, opulent, refined, well-structured wine needs time to reveal itself. Ideally, at least 12 years.

The Estate

A family estate dating back to the 17th century.
Our vineyards span 15 hectares and our estate is home to 20 wines, including 3 regional appellations, 5 village appellations, 9 Premier Crus and 3 Grand Crus.

The shop

We’ve spent a long time focussing our efforts on our vineyard and winemaking, but we are soon planning to open our shop. This means you can now visit our cellar by appointment. You'll be able to take an introductory tour to explore the estate, learn about the history and discover our wine with a themed tasting.
