Mathilde Grivot
A good head on her shoulders.
Galloping through life (a former show jumper), she is never afraid to tackle obstacles head on.
« Generations before us
toiled hard and made our job much easier… »
But that’s not to say that it’s all been plain sailing. Never forget that if a winemaker makes a mistake during vinification, they have to wait until the following year before they can make up for it. Vinification is an incredible opportunity with no room for error.
We export 75% of our wines. It’s a little less than we used to, but we still have a very close, collaborative relationship with the exporter. Obviously, Burgundy is enjoying huge popularity worldwide at the moment and riding the wave. Prices have soared and some people have lost all sense of reason.
While we should increase prices at the right time so the company can make money and pay staff a fair wage, we still need to take consumer palates into account. Fortunately, the tradition for wines meant for ageing endures and the complex energy of a cuvée develops and improves over time. There is no denying, however, that there is demand for younger wines which are available to drink immediately.
Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er cru – “Roncière”
Go-to wine
As disciplined as she is secretive, Mathilde admits that a “Grand Cru should never disappoint. If you’re after a beautiful expression of Pinot Noir then all you need is a Nuits-St-Georges Les Roncières.
Favourite time of year
I love all seasons of the year in our industry. We’re fortunate to work in a very fulfilling profession which requires great versatility. The start of the plant cycle is always very exciting as we need to become one with the new vintage. Harvesting and bottling are also energising as they show the fruits of our labour over the year. Then, there is presenting the new vintage to our customers, which is always a proud moment. Their feedback is always reassuring for our decisions and in continuing to progress.
Vosne-Romanée 1er cru "Les Beaux Monts"
One of the most famous Premier Crus in the commune, it is a full-bodied and distinctive wine. It has a smooth aroma of red fruit and exotic spices. Its precocious charm means it can be enjoyed after just a few years of ageing, but also improves over time due to its natural balance.
The Estate
A family estate dating back to the 17th century.
Our vineyards span 15 hectares and our estate is home to 20 wines, including 3 regional appellations, 5 village appellations, 9 Premier Crus and 3 Grand Crus.
The shop
We’ve spent a long time focussing our efforts on our vineyard and winemaking, but we are soon planning to open our shop. This means you can now visit our cellar by appointment. You'll be able to take an introductory tour to explore the estate, learn about the history and discover our wine with a themed tasting.
Le château du Clos de Vougeot
Located in the heart of the Route des Grands Crus, the Château du Clos Vougeot is open to visitors all year round for anyone with a keen interest in history, architecture or wine.
This exceptional historical monument is the headquarters of the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin.
A special place: Les Beaux Monts
Definitely not the office! Admin is taking up more and more time. I chose this profession to be out in the vineyards and in the cellar! I love being above our Les Beaux Monts Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru plot. It’s a magical place where you can see the whole of the Vosne-Romanée vineyard, its bell tower to the right, the roofs of the Château du Clos Vougeot on our left and the Saône plain stretching out as far as the eye can see. Sometimes, we can even catch a glimpse of Mont Blanc for a few hours!

She brings balance and is the cornerstone of the estate. She manages the business side and irons out any administrative issues that arise. We all know businesses also involve paperwork, patience and discipline.
Hubert Grivot
His strength lies in his humility. Observant and quiet, Hubert has measured and honed his role with regard tohis heritage, and is developing like a wise apprentice. His fine, reserved nature gives all the signals of a future Grand Cru.
